Permission to Proceed

In our 25 years’ plus experience dealing with highly confidential design and development data files, it is imperative that we have complete control as to whom has access to these sensitive documents when under our care. It is therefore our intention, as a consultant mechanical design engineering company, to be highly strategic, in only allowing those individuals, who as part of their remit or technical role within any given project, can view specific engineering data.

It is simply unacceptable to allow all permanent staff members or more temporary consultants, free rein to all electronic folders, documents and drawings. Accidents are more prevalent through a lack of understanding and knowledge, leading to changing data files when it is not appropriate to do so, or even worse, deleting important information. Of course, we recognise that it is sometimes difficult to get the right balance between empowering an employee and being able to put trust in a colleague when you delegate a task. So, in order to prevent this from happening, we will often create a shared area on our network, limiting access and functionality, and agree a protocol for everyone to follow. In other words, we will forbid galloping wildly, in favour of a firm, controlled grip on the reins.

Of course, communication can be at fault, but when you are given permission to proceed with a client’s project, steadfast management processes must be implemented in order to safely nurture and manage the data.
