Sanstec Design Blog

In engineering, you can almost learn something new every day. That is most certainly the case for us, particularly when we are working on an internal project in the Sanstec workshop. We are fortunate to not only operate as a consultant mechanical design engineering company, offering services to design and develop products or parts, but, to have our own engineering facilities. I won’t lie, but this dedicated space has been great for us to increase our knowledge and push our technical capability, sometimes to extremes.

We’ve recently been working on an internal project that will improve the way we are able to restore the engines of our own classic cars. Although we are in the early stages of finalising the concept, we are comfortable and confident that we have a robust design. On this occasion, for the design engineering, we have chosen to utilise Creo software to undertake the task. We now just need to source the appropriate materials to make some parts, finish and assemble them etc. and thus prove that our prototype works. Once this has been completed, we can set about finalising the design and the associated CAD data.

In this instance, we are creating our own bill of materials (BOM), a database of part numbers, and managing our stock of parts. Through undertaking various internal projects like this, and constantly solving problems which arise, it naturally helps us to keep learning and ultimately support other internal and client projects.
